In 2015, we built a picturesque house in Horná Súča, which will serve the family during weekends. For this construction, we supplied the structure of the rough construction, the complete façade and the roof. After a year, we visited the house again and since the wood is not chemically treated, we could observe how the wood works beautifully and the house changes its exterior.
The weekend family house in Horná Súča is one of the first designs of the house that the architect designed in his studio from the popular CLT system. The solid wood in the interior is very pleasant and cozy, and this system was chosen by the investors on purpose. The couple are doctors and they are fond of quality and healthy housing, so the choice fell on the massive wood in the interior. We applied clay plasters to parts of the walls to improve the internal microclimate.
The main source of heat in the house is the tiled stove in the center of the house. The layout of the house is deliberately designed so that the heat from the furnace is evenly distributed to all rooms. In the place of the furnace, the space is open across both floors and the heat rises nicely to the upper rooms.
Since the house will be used mainly as a weekend house, there is no controlled ventilation with heat recovery. From an economic point of view, this system is unprofitable with occasional use of the house. If the family later moves into the house permanently, they will easily supplement controlled ventilation with recuperation.
An interesting feature of the solution is that CLT panels were also used for the pitched roof, so the exposed wood is used in this house to the maximum extent possible. We also used wooden larch cladding for the façade, which makes the house an exceptional architectural piece in the location.
Since we used a lot of above-standard materials in the house and it is a weekend house, the economy of course also played a role. Therefore, the house is maximally minimized to the needs of weekend use, so that the family can enjoy such quality without any problems. But without any problems, the house is also usable for permanent housing of a family of 4. It stands on a hill with a great view. So if the family decides to move into the house permanently in the future, we will all envy them beautiful sunsets 🙂
